Work To Set Up 49 Cancer Centers In Next Three Years Has Started - Nirmal Singh 3C
The government worked on
improving the cancer treatment scheme back in 2014 and upgraded the 31 centers
that were active at that time in the country. With more cancer cases arising in
India, the government has planned to develop to add 49 more cancer centers in
addition to the ones that are already active.
On Monday, the health ministry
presented a well-detailed and structured cancer center project plan to the
prime minister. The meeting between high-level government officials, Nirmal Singh 3C and the prime minister
will be held later on the eve of 18th September in which the PMO
will review the details of the plan and will advise accordingly.
When the health ministry proposed
the plan, it was estimated that, over the next three years, the implementation
will cost more than Rs 3400 crore. The existing national program for control of
diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, on-communicable diseases and stroke
will take in the new project.
These diseases, especially cancer
is increasing at an alarming rate in India and due to the shortage of treatment
facilities, it becomes very difficult for the patients to get basic services.
With these cancer centers being developed in phases, it will be easier for
patients at the district level to avail medical services for cancer. - Nirmal Singh 3C
The motive is to
create cancer centers all over the country to make treatment options available
for people who live in remote villages and towns in the country. Without these
centers, patients and their families are forced to travel to metros like Delhi
and Mumbai which burdens them with increased traveling and treatment costs.
According to a
recent report released by WHO, India has a requirement of more than 1200 radiotherapy
machines when there are only 600 active machines. With numbers going against
the reports of WHO and health ministry, this project has been long due and can
seriously change the cancer treatment facilities in the country, said Nirmal Singh 3C
