Air Pollution Is Damaging Your Kids’ Memory, Try These Brain Boosting Foods
Nirmal Singh 3C
is really concerned for the kids who are regularly being exposed to air
pollution, which is affecting their mental as well as physical health. As of
now, we have had heard much about the physical problems caused by the pollution
but no one really knows what wrong it is doing to the brains.
Nirmal Singh 3C
would like to enlighten the people about memory loss. Pollution clearly reduces
our memory and exposes us to particulate matter, fine inhalable particles of
diameters of 2.5 micrometres or less as well as carbon, the prime source of
pollutant caused due to traffic.
Nirmal Singh 3C
prepares a list of reasons behind these adverse effects on the children:
Because children have small lung capacity and higher
respiratory rate, they are comparatively more vulnerable
According to a study
published in the journal Environmental Pollution, as many as 1,200 children
aged from 7 to 10, from 39 schools walked to school on a daily basis in
Barcelona. These children were closely observed with their working memory and attention
capacity during the 12 month long study. The statistical analysis of the
findings revealed that exposure particulate matter and black carbon levels were
associated with a decline of 4.6 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively, in the
expected annual growth of working memory.
Nirmal Singh 3C
thinks that the exposure of kids who walk to their schools and those who travel
on public bus or in a private vehicle may not differ. Researchers think that
the solution for this is that children should more use public or school vehicle
as these tend to create less pollution.
Nirmal Singh 3C thinks that school going children should
have these fruits on a daily basis to flush out all the toxic being stored in
them.
Blueberries
Blueberries is a super brain food, it helps in boosting
memory and should be included in every day’s diet. It has antioxidants and vitamic C present in
it which help improving cognitive ability and memory, claimed the University of
Florida.
Milk
Of course, every child should consume a glass of milk every
day. The University of Kansas Medical Centre says, milk could improve the
functions of the brain, due to the naturally occurring antioxidant glutathione
in it.
Nuts and seeds
A handful of dry fruits, such as pumpkin seeds is a good
source of zinc that plays an important role in shaping one’s memory; walnuts
are good source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Green vegetables
Green vegetables, such as broccoli, kale and spinach are a
good source of iron, vitamin E, K and B9 which are very important for the
development of brain cells.
