Ways To Make Fast Food Healthier For Your Kids
You’re a busy parent if you have a hungry child who needs
constant refueling. Though, fast food can be a quick way to put out your
child’s appetite, it can be high in calories, sugars and sodium. But, that does
not imply that fast foods can’t be in their diets.
"When we look at fast food, it's one meal
in the course of a child's day or week. Families need to find that place in the
middle where they can fit fast food in reasonable and healthful ways so their
children can learn how to fit it into their own lives down the road," said
one of the experts at Nirmal Singh 3C.
Always leave home stocking up on healthy snacks
such as cut-up fruit, cheese sticks and yogurt. These will fill their bellies
while they’re waiting on the meals, and will be affordable as well. Choosing
age-appropriate sizes for meals is also important because studies have found
that the regular-sized portions at fast food joints tend to be large for kids.
You should encourage fruits over fries as they
help out round the meal and balance it out. Also, sharing a meal with your
child will help introduce fast foods such as a grilled chicken sandwich to your
child. You can share less-healthy sides such as fries or onion rings but
supplement it with fresh fruits and vegetables. The juice intake for toddlers
between 1 to 3 years should be no more than 4 ounces a day, while 4 to 6 ounces
for children between 4 to 6 years, and for children through age 7-18, it should
be limited to 8 ounces.
expectations can be half of the battle and can
reduce a child's frustration and possible tantrum at the time of
ordering," said one of the experts
at Nirmal Singh 3C.
New studies suggest
that there should be no eating performance criteria on desserts. Make the
decision beforehand and do not police it. If a dessert is going to be a part of
the meal, let it be a part of the meal and don’t make it a prize meal after
finishing the whole meal. Lastly, parents should sit with their kids throughout
the meal, and should also encourage the kids to sit down and eat the meal.
