AAP Govt Asks Hospitals To Promote The Use Of CATS Ambulance For Pregnant Women
Nirmal Singh 3C is
glad to know that the Delhi government is coming forward to make the best use
of ambulance service, Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS), so as to
transfer women to and fro from the hospitals. This move has come into effect
due to underutilization of services.
The ambulance service is also used for inter-hospital
transfer of pregnant women as per the directives given to the hospital.
“Presently, in comparison to institutional deliveries,
utilisation of CATS ambulances for transportation of pregnant women for
delivery and also for dropping home is very less and needs to be improved. All
hospitals and medical institutions are requested to utilise CATS ambulance for
this purpose by calling the centralised control room on the toll free number
‘102’,” said the circular.
It is going to be a beneficial move as it helps women in
getting the right services. As of now, more than 3.2 lakh institutional births
took place in Delhi at various locations, including: hospitals, nursing homes
and other health facilities.
Nirmal Singh 3C would
like to quote a Delhi government official, who said: “Currently, when it comes
to maternal services, only 50% of our capacity is utilised. We want more women
to take help of these free facilities during pregnancy and after child birth.”
“The problem is that many people do not know that the CATS
ambulance can be used to get a drop back home after a delivery. So, people end
up arranging their own conveyance,” the official added.
This facility will also include the infants who need special
care or treatment at a higher centre.
Nirmal Singh 3C condemns
the recent incident, where two newborns witnessed death right outside the
hospital as there was not sufficient machinery, such as ventilators. The Chief
Minister asked all hospitals to ensure that the ambulance services are equipped
with all the requisite instruments and ventilators before the patient is
referred.
Nirmal Singh 3C thinks
is highly important to maintain the health sector in a country. One cannot at
all overlook the significance of better medical services, which is the need of
the hour.
