A ‘Rapid Algorithm’ Developed By Scientists Will Diagnose Heart Attacks Better, Says Nirmal Singh 3C

Heart attacks and heart problems account for over 10 percent of all the emergency department consultation in India, reports say.
Scientists have developed a rapid algorithm that is able to identify if a patient is undergoing heart attack – the diagnosis done through the algorithm will be superior to everything that the hospitals and doctors have been using.
According to the report released last week, more than 10% of all the emergency consultations in India are for heart problems and myocardial infarctions. Rapidly understanding the issue with the patient and whether or not they are undergoing a heart attack will help the doctors create a treatment plan for them. - Nirmal Singh 3C

The algorithm which is under observation and is being used for research purposes allows timely detection of heart problems and heart attacks; something that was not possible with the available technology and tools at the disposal of the doctors. The system will also allow the doctors to know the alternative causes of acute chest pain. Many of the heart problems that patients visit the hospitals are benign and do not require serious attention, the system will reveal those situations and the patient will be sent home reassured about his health and that there is nothing serious. - Nirmal Singh 3C

The study was finalized after the diagnostic performance of the algorithm was checked based on the data collected from over 4000 patients that came to the emergency department and complained about acute chest pain.

The research was concluded with the algorithm identifying the heart attacks and acute chest pains correctly over 99 percent of the time.
The researchers were not sure about the performance of the rapid algorithm and needed practical proof that it can be used in the hospitals. The suitability and safety of the algorithm for clinical care were revealed only after it was put to work on the data collected over the years. - Nirmal Singh 3C
